@Chieftain - No doubt warm reds are the worst. It's fun to ask them in restaurants to put a bottle of red in ice water for 5 minutes. They look at you like you are the biggest bozo that has ever walked in. I just tell them that when a red is too warm it totally obfuscates the terwaugh.

Well I have not drunk beer seriously since I was about 30, switched to gin and then at 40 gloriously to wine; having said that I was just at an Astros game as a Dad's Day gift with JohnnyWino and Fiona and sank three large Heinekens and it wasn't half bad. And I'm sure in Florida we'll do some more...

On the subject of wine fridges, I just recently bought a two-zone model with reds at 60 and whites at 48 and a new life is opening up. Just now see that every glass of red I've had in Houston for 20 years has been too warm, and life in the reds is good.

@Mick - I think a wine chiller on the boat is a great idea! And remember, you don't have to stop liking beer to like wine. I'm a total wino, but I loves me some brews (even Coors Light!).

Just read the entire blog, and I give it an A- (for the one incorrect spelling--I'm sure it was the wine that made you do it). Good composition, grammatically correct, entertaining, informative, and I learned a new word (terroir--the one you misspelled, as has already been pointed out). Keep up the good work! Please express a belated Happy Birthday to Fiona. :)

I'm disappointed you left off smaller sizes, though. I quite enjoy a split of Champagne or four. It's like you own personal slice of heaven - just add a straw.

Very cool chart. At my favorite wine place in Champaign the owner once brought out a double magnum of this sexy Italian shit. He said that anyone could sample it if they could pour a taste with one hand. It was a challenge, but I managed. It was worth it. Plus, double magnums are just plain fun - a party in a bottle.
